The month of May saw the Chapter’s Play Golf America host sites succeed with flying colors. As last year, we hosted four sites around the Portland/Vancouver Area, Stone Creek GC, Heron Lakes GC, Green Mountain GC and Meriwether GC but added one in Redmond at Juniper GC.
Our objective was to select host sites without customer overlap and to target new golfers. A couple of the sites included a demo day, but all provided free ten minute golf lessons and approximately 50 such lessons were given at each site!
The committee would like to thank the host sites and the professionals who made the “Days” run so smoothly. A big “Thank You” goes to Ted Westling and Doug Suse at Stone Creek; John Bowen and Scott Blake at Heron Lakes; Kevin Coombs at Green Mountain; Jordan Bury at Meriwether; and Bruce Wattenburger at Juniper.
The Play Golf America Program has been growing throughout the country and this year included the “Get Golf Ready” golf learning curriculum which was generated by the World Golf Foundation, in conjunction with the PGA, LPGA, Golf Course owners, general managers and superintendants. If you have signed up for the Get Golf Ready Program and are instituting it at your course Harold Bluestein, Chairman, would like to hear from you.
Is the program successful? Has the economy affected participation? Many of you will receive a stipend from the World Golf Foundation for your efforts; are you fulfilling the requirements? Do you have questions regarding those requirements? Please contact Harold for answers to your questions and suggestions.
The Play Golf Program possibilities are wide ranging and hopefully you are taking advantage of the source materials available online. Harold urges you to become involved on whatever level you feel comfortable with one or more of the events suggested. Often we feel that unless we make a big splash we are unsuccessful. Not true. Every golfer is unique and so their experience with you can and should be unique. Let’s find and nurture and keep new golfers one at a time!
